New Delhi – The Maritime Security Division of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has warned that important locations situated near land and maritime borders could be targeted through drone attacks. In view of this threat, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has directed security agencies to remain on high alert. Instructions have also been issued to deploy anti-drone systems at sensitive locations.
According to a report in The Hindu, the Central Industrial Security Force has constituted a team comprising officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Intelligence Bureau, the Airports Authority and the Border Security Force. A final decision on installing anti-drone systems at sensitive locations will be taken after the team submits its report and receives approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, sources have indicated that trials of these systems have already commenced in certain areas of Punjab along the Pakistan border.
