New Delhi – The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to eight food business operators for making misleading health-related claims while marketing food products. The companies include Emami Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Troovy, The Healthy Factory, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, Plan B and Neuherbs. The authority stated that these companies had violated the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
1. The authority objected to claims such as “Healthy”, “True Vitamin”, “Zero Maida” and “Plant-Based Vegan”, stating that these could mislead consumers. It observed that “certain product claims and brand names are not consistent with the actual ingredients or their permitted descriptions and may create a false impression among consumers.”
2. Earlier, action had also been taken after complaints were received regarding Maggi, KFC, Flipkart and Open Secret.
3. The authority clarified that this campaign to ensure transparency in food advertising and labelling will continue in the future.
