Is Bangladesh Govt helping those who want to create a ‘Hindu-free’ nation?: Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury

Bangladeshi editor Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury expresses displeasure over halting of construction of the Sanatan Dharma Complex in Gaibandha, Bangladesh

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – “What is happening in Gaibandha? Islamic radicals and jihadis are targeting this project and escalating their activities. They are openly calling for the destruction of the idols of Shiv, Shrikrishna and Shriram, while the state machinery remains completely silent. Do Hindus not have the right to live in this country? Is the Government helping criminals who want to turn Bangladesh into a ‘Hindu-free’ nation?”, questioned Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, Senior Editor of the Weekly Blitz and a campaigner for the protection of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. He released a video statement on X expressing his concerns.

Important points raised by Choudhury

1. Billions of dollars are coming into this country from Muslim nations for the construction of hundreds of mosques. Christian missionaries and Christian countries are sending funds to build churches. Japan is providing funds for the construction of pagodas (Buddhist temples). There is no objection to any of this.

2. The problem arises only when Hindus build temples and install idols. Why? Because Pakistan’s ISI is sowing hatred against Hindus in the minds of people in Bangladesh. As citizens of Bangladesh, we cannot accept such a situation. We cannot allow this to happen.

3. I humbly appeal to human rights groups, international media, conscientious citizens and policymakers across the world to raise their voices on this issue and exert pressure on the Government of Bangladesh.

4. The project in Gaibandha must continue. I am also aware of several other conspiracies aimed at threatening this project. Islamic radicals intend to implicate the organisers of this project in false cases and send them to prison, just as they did in the case of Chinmoy Krishna Das. This must not be allowed to happen. Chinmoy Krishna Das should be released immediately, and the Gaibandha project should be protected and allowed to continue.

5. The Government of Bangladesh should not surrender to the malicious intentions of Pakistan’s ISI. This is not merely a question of the rights of Hindus; it is a question of proving that Bangladesh is a nation that upholds secularism and communal harmony. We do not want to become another Pakistan.
