1. According to the police, Jitesh, who worked with the contractor, had secretly recorded videos and photographs of the contractor during his private moments. He was extorting money from the contractor by threatening to make them public.
2. The contractor later approached Congress leader Nizam for help. Instead of assisting him, Nizam joined hands with Jitesh and began threatening the contractor for money.
3. Nizam threatened the contractor by claiming that “Jitesh has committed suicide, his suicide note mentions your name, and you will have to face legal action” and extorted money from him. The Police stated that the two accused together extorted approximately ₹2.57 crore.
4. A few days ago, the contractor saw Jitesh moving around in the city and became suspicious. Upon realising that he had been deceived, he lodged a complaint at the Urwa Police Station.
5. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested both the accused. They have been remanded to judicial custody.
6. Soon after this case came to light, Nizam was removed from his position as District General Secretary of the Youth Congress.
7. The South Kannada District unit of the BJP Yuva Morcha has demanded an impartial investigation to determine whether any more influential politicians were involved in the case.
