India summons US envoy; Strong protest lodged

The American action has severely strained diplomatic relations between India and the United States, two friendly nations. Following the incident, Additional Secretary of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Nagaraj Naidu, summoned Acting US Ambassador Jason Meeks to the Ministry and lodged a strong protest.

India warned that it would not tolerate any American military action that endangered the lives of Indian seafarers. It also demanded that the United States immediately stop targeting commercial vessels on international waterways. In response, the US Government stated, “We are in direct contact with the Government of India regarding this matter.”

India is closely monitoring the situation: Ministry of External Affairs

India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Indian Embassy was closely monitoring the situation. Omani authorities are actively coordinating rescue operations. The Ministry further stated that the continuing attacks on vessels in the region are extremely concerning. It reiterated India’s call for an immediate reduction in tensions between the United States and Iran and for the completion of ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a diplomatic solution. The Ministry added that if tensions are reduced, peace and stability can once again return to the region.
