Fanatical Muslims attack historic Shri Kalimata Temple in Bangladesh

  • Temple and Idol vandalised

  • Main accused caught by local Hindus

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Fanatical Muslims targeted the historic Shri Kalimata Temple in Atwari Upazila of Panchagarh district. They vandalised the temple and brutally desecrated the sacred Idol of Shri Kalimata. The incident has created an atmosphere of intense anger and fear among the local Hindu community.

Main accused caught red-handed by local Hindus

The main accused has been identified as Zaker Islam. While attempting to flee after the attack, he was caught red-handed by alert local Hindus.

What is particularly shocking is that when the local Hindus caught him, he was holding the severed head of the desecrated Idol of Shri Kalimata in his hands.

After a video of the incident went viral, a local resident said, “Our historic Shri Kalimata Temple has been completely destroyed with the intention of grabbing the temple property. If such incidents can take place in broad daylight and before everyone’s eyes, where should we Hindus go to seek justice ? How are we to protect our festivals, our lives and our Dharma ?”

Local residents have demanded that the administration and the police immediately intervene, provide permanent protection to the temple land, and initiate stringent legal action against Zaker Islam and all others involved in the conspiracy.

Editorial Perspective

As inactive and indifferent Hindus and Hindu organisations in India and across the world no longer seem concerned about such incidents in Bangladesh, these attacks are unlikely to stop. It is equally true that, within a few years, the very existence of Hindus in Bangladesh may be wiped out.
