Theft of temple donations at Maa Baglamukhi Shaktipeeth in Madhya Pradesh: Fake committee collected donations for 3 years

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – A major controversy has surfaced over temple donations at the renowned Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Agar-Malwa district. It is alleged that an unauthorised private committee was formed in the name of the temple and used to collect cash as well as gold and silver ornaments donated by devotees. Taking serious note of the matter, Agar-Malwa District Collector Preeti Yadav constituted a three-member inquiry committee on 7 July. The committee has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the entire matter and submit its detailed report within seven days.

1. According to the complaint filed with the District Collector’s office, an unauthorised private committee had been operating in the temple premises alongside the Government-appointed Temple Management Committee. This private committee was collecting cash, gold and silver donations from devotees within the temple premises.

2. Instead of depositing the donated cash and jewellery in the Government treasury, the collections were allegedly being transferred to private bank accounts. It is also alleged that large-scale manipulation of financial records took place during the process. In addition, fake receipts were reportedly issued to mislead devotees.

3. At present, seven display boards have been installed in the temple premises listing the names of 170 devotees who donated silver. However, there is no record of how many devotees subsequently donated cash or jewellery to the temple. No such records are available with the temple authorities, nor have they been submitted to the district administration.
