Surpasses the record of the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru

New Delhi – After an influential political career spanning approximately 40 years, Narendra Modi has become India’s first elected Prime Minister to serve continuously in office for the longest period, i.e., for 12 years. On this occasion, leaders from India and abroad extended their congratulations to Prime Minister Modi.
On 10 June, Prime Minister Modi completed a total of 4,399 days as Prime Minister. He surpassed the record of Jawaharlal Nehru, who had served as elected Prime Minister for 4,398 days. Before assuming office as Prime Minister in May 2014, Modi had served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for nearly 13 years. As a result, he had recently set the record for serving as the head of a government for more than 25 years.
During Prime Minister Modi’s tenure, several historic decisions were taken. These include demonetisation, the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India, the Uri surgical strike, the Balakot strike and Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Modi also successfully led the country through global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and various wars.
