Passengers and staff face inconvenience!
By Gopichand Vhanmare, Solapur.

Solapur – The bus stand here is an important transport hub in the State. The old central S.T. bus stand in Solapur has become inadequate due to the increased number of passengers. Although the number of buses has been increased to meet the increasing demand of passengers, serious shortcomings are present in the cleanliness and management of the stand.

Currently, 5 employees do the cleaningwork between 6 a.m. till 10 p.m. However, In reality, the cleanliness was found to be highly unsatisfactory. It was told that ‘cleaning staff would be increased from June 1’; but, in reality, this has not happened. There are issues such as gutkha stains in the toilets, passengers having to sit on the floor due to inadequate number of benches. Since the platforms have not been cleaned either, passengers are having to suffer due to unhygienic conditions.

Poor and unclean condition of Buses!
1. Many a time, buses too are in an extremely bad condition. Empty water bottles, food packets, peels and dust are found in the buses. The security arrangement at the bus stand is also inadequate and security personnel were not seen anywhere.

2. The increase in the number of stray dogs at the bus stand has raised concerns about the safety of passengers.

3. It is being alleged that a bottle of drinking water is charged Rs 20 at the canteen here. Although there is a drinking water facility at the stand citizens have to buy water because the tap is not working,
4. Although the ‘Hirkani cell’ has been set up in the changing room for women drivers and conductors, no signboard indicating the location of the ‘Hirkani cell’ has been installed.
Unsanitary rest room for drivers and conductors

The condition of the toilets and bathrooms for the drivers and conductors is pitiable and many toilets even lack doors.

The employees have to rest in temporary tin sheet sheds. There is a lack of cleanliness there too.

Depot manager assures to take measures to address these inadequacies! When these issues were discussed with depot manager Uttam Jundale, he assured to put up a board at the ‘Hirkani Room’ and give instructions to sell ‘Nathjal’ water bottles at the appropriate price. He issued an immediate order to fine Rs 500 to any employee who comes to the toilet after consuming gutkha. He also expressed the opinion that security guards need to maintain proper vigilance. |
“Send us photographs showing the poor condition of bus stops! If the bus stops in your area are also unhygienic and lack even basic facilities such as drinking water, seating benches, or garbage bins, then share this information along with photos with Sanatan Prabhat on WhatsApp number 9225639170. By bringing the miserable state of bus stops to the attention of the authorities, let us all cooperate in the cleanliness campaign!” |
Appeal to Citizens!Just as the cleanliness of bus stations is the responsibility of the State Transport Corporation, it is equally the duty of every responsible citizen. Keeping in mind that “ST is the lifeline of the common people,” each citizen should contribute to this campaign to maintain bus stations clean and beautiful.
