War flares up again between Iran and Israel

Tehran / Tel Aviv – Tensions that had been simmering in the Gulf region for the past several days have flared up once again. Late on the night of 7 June, Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel. In response, within a few hours, the Israeli military activated its air defence systems and launched attacks on Iran.

Six major developments related to the conflict

1. The Israeli Defence Forces stated that the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes against military targets in western and central Iran.

2. The Iranian military also confirmed the Israeli attacks. It stated that Israel used air-launched ballistic missiles to strike nearly 15 locations in Iran. Among the targets was a drone manufacturing facility in Tehran.

3. According to reports in local Iranian media, explosions were heard in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan.

4. Iran closed the airspace around Imam Khomeini International Airport in the capital, Tehran.

5. Sirens were sounded in several areas of central Israel. Residents of Gush Dan, Jerusalem and surrounding regions were advised to remain alert. Owing to the threat of possible attacks, Israel temporarily closed its airspace.

6. Amid all this, the Houthi rebel group in Yemen openly expressed support for Iran’s missile attack on Israel.

United States issues clarification

The United States clarified that its military was not involved in the Israeli attacks on Iran. American officials also stated that the scope of the Israeli strikes was relatively limited. Earlier, following Iran’s attack, President Trump had urged Netanyahu not to undertake any retaliatory action. According to a report by the news agency Axios, the Israeli Prime Minister had agreed to this request. However, within a few hours, Israel carried out retaliatory operations.

Indian Embassy urges Indians to leave Iran immediately

In view of the deteriorating regional situation in Iran, the Government of India has issued a fresh advisory for its citizens. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has advised all Indians to avoid travelling to Iran. At the same time, Indian citizens currently in Iran have been advised to leave the country at the earliest using whatever transport facilities are available.
