Surya Chauhan murder case: Main accused Asad killed in Police encounter

• Three other accused arrested; one still absconding

• Surya's mother demands all accused to be killed

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) – Seventeen-year-old Surya Chauhan was stabbed to death by his Muslim friends in the Khoda area on the day of Bakri Eid over an old dispute. In a subsequent development in the case, the Police have stated that the main accused, Asad, was killed in an encounter.

1. Asad was reportedly expected to come to the Khoda area to collect money from a friend. According to the Police, he planned to flee the city after receiving the money. Upon receiving this information, the Ghaziabad Police laid a trap and surrounded the area to apprehend him.

2. After some time, Asad arrived at the location on a motorcycle along with another accused. When the Police attempted to apprehend him, Asad opened fire on Police personnel. The Police responded in self-defence. During the exchange of fire, Asad sustained gunshot injuries and was critically wounded. He was immediately admitted to hospital, where he later died during treatment. One Police constable was also injured in the encounter. The second accused who had arrived with Asad managed to escape during the incident.

3. The Police had already arrested three accused in the case, while two others were absconding. Following Asad’s death, one accused remains absconding.

4. Surya’s family had been demanding both Police encounters against the accused and bulldozer action. Considering the seriousness of the case, Surya’s funeral was conducted under heavy security arrangements.

I will be satisfied only after seeing a photograph of Asad’s body; Demand by Surya’s mother

Surya’s mother, Saroj, said that she had only seen reports about the encounter. She said that she wanted to see a photograph of Asad’s body and would believe he had truly been killed only after seeing it. She further said that the remaining accused should also be killed in a similar manner. In addition, she demanded that bulldozer action should be taken on the accused’ houses.
