Mumbai – At the “Fish Koliwada” restaurant in the Santosh Nagar area of Goregaon, every roti prepared was being spat upon before being served to customers. In this case, the Police registered an offence against restaurant owner Faiyyaz Ahmad Sheikh and cook Kaushar Gaffar Sheikh; however, after questioning them, they were released upon notice.

Deepak Pawar, a local resident, was passing by the restaurant when he noticed Kaushar Sheikh spitting on rotis. Becoming suspicious, he reportedly stopped and observed for some time, during which he saw that every roti was being spat upon before being placed in the furnace. The same rotis were then served to customers. He recorded the incident on his mobile phone. After the matter went viral on social media, the Police took cognisance of it.

Editorial Perspective

  • Even while customers’ health was being endangered, the Police released the Muslim accused. Such Police personnel themselves should be jailed!
  • Instead of releasing those serving spit-contaminated rotis, such rotis should be fed to the restaurant owner and workers themselves, and such eateries should be banned!
