More than 15 fanatical Muslims attack two Hindu youths brutally at Goa Fort in Dapoli

Dapoli (Maharashtra) – On 27 May, the day of Bakri Eid, more than 15 Muslims assaulted two Hindu youths and attempted to kill them after the latter had objected to fanatical Muslim youths smoking cigarettes at Goa Fort and had circulated information about the incident through a video. Both Hindu youths sustained serious injuries. In protest against the incident, Hindus in Harnai took to the streets and staged a road blockade agitation, declaring that they would not withdraw until the attackers were arrested. The Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused.

What happened?

1. On 26 May, two fanatical Muslim youths, Zain Aslam Hunairkar and Mufiz Javed Solkar, were smoking, consuming alcohol, and shouting loudly at the main entrance of Goa Fort in Harnai. When Chinmay Gurav and Mahendra Raghuveer asked them not to smoke cigarettes at the fort, the youths abused them verbally and fled the scene. Later, while searching for them, the two youths were found near Mohalla Mosque at around midnight. After being counselled, they apologised. Subsequently, Gurav circulated a video and message on social media urging people not to smoke cigarettes at the fort.

2. On the evening of 27 May, Chinmay Gurav and Mahendra Raghuveer visited the fort. There, Zain Aslam and Mufiz confronted them over the circulated video, verbally abused them, and began assaulting them with iron rods. Among the other 30 to 35 individuals who had come there to graze goats, 10 to 15 fanatical Muslims joined in the assault. Gurav and Raghuveer sustained serious injuries, and the attackers also stole a gold chain that Gurav was wearing. After Gurav contacted his relatives, both injured youths were admitted to hospital for treatment.

Local Hindus unite

As soon as news of the incident spread, large numbers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj followers and local residents from Dapoli gathered at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk in Dapoli city on the night of 27 May. A road blockade protest was organised demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and the registration of stringent charges against them. During the protest, Hindus firmly stated that they would not retreat until the fanatical attackers were arrested. Following the incident, a tense calm prevails in the Harnai area, and Police security has been increased.
