London (Britain) – There was a time when Indians competed to settle in Britain; today, Indians rank first among those leaving Britain and returning to their homeland. According to British Government statistics, Indian students and working professionals are returning to India in record numbers. Along with other factors, one significant reason cited for this trend is the transformation of London into “Londonistan” (Islamisation). This has created a sense of insecurity among educated and peace-loving Indians residing there.
1. According to the latest report released by Britain’s Office for National Statistics, Government data shows that in 2025 alone, approximately 51,000 Indian students and 21,000 Indian employees permanently left Britain and returned to India. In other words, more than 72,000 Indians left Britain in a single year.
2. Due to the large-scale departure of Indians, the total number of immigrants arriving in Britain has fallen to 1,71,000, which is nearly half of the previous year’s figure. After Indians, Chinese nationals rank second among those leaving Britain. Around 46,000 Chinese citizens have left the country. They are followed by people from Ukraine and Nigeria.
What Is ‘Londonistan’?
Over the past few years, the demographic composition of many major British cities has changed rapidly. Due to extremism and the growing population of Pakistani Muslims, many parts of Britain are now reportedly gaining notoriety as “Londonistan”. Violent protests, grooming gangs (groups that lure girls into exploitation and sexual abuse), raising religious slogans on the streets, and radicalism dominating British culture are causing concern among the peace-loving Indian community living there.
In recent times, incidents targeting Hindus and people of Indian origin have also reportedly increased in Britain. In such an environment, Indian families, particularly with regard to the future of their children, are deeply concerned. They increasingly feel that returning to a safe and rapidly developing India is a better option than continuing to live in an insecure environment.
Double blow of inflation in Britain
Another major reason is Britain’s weakening economy. Inflation in Britain has reached very high levels. Whether it is paying house rent, electricity bills, or purchasing groceries, the financial burden on ordinary people has increased significantly. Following crises in the Gulf region, the prices of oil and gas have risen so sharply that life has become difficult for the average salaried worker. Indian students often take loans worth lakhs of rupees to study in Britain; however, the cost of living has risen so much that they are unable to sustain themselves even with part-time employment.
British Government tightens immigration rules
The British Government has adopted a very strict stance towards immigration. Under the new regulations, several restrictions have been imposed on foreign students and workers. Previously, Indian students could easily obtain a work visa after completing their studies and could also keep their families with them. However, the British Government has now tightened the rules to such an extent that visa renewal has become difficult. This stricter regulatory environment has made many Indians realise that Britain is no longer in a mindset to welcome foreign nationals.
