New Delhi – The Supreme Court has upheld the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls conducted before the Bihar Assembly elections as valid and constitutional, observing that the Election Commission has the authority to adopt a special procedure for such an intensive review. The process had been challenged after it was initiated in Bihar.
The Supreme Court stated that the Election Commission of India is a constitutional institution and has the authority to ensure fair and accurate electoral rolls. The Court further observed that adopting a separate procedure under special circumstances is not contrary to the Constitution or the law.
