Sarasbaug Garden in Pune to remain closed for 2 days following collective demand by devout Hindu organisations

Pune (Maharashtra) – Following an organised demand by devout Hindu organisations, Sarasbaug Garden will remain closed on 28 and 29 May for security reasons. On 9 March, the day after Ramzan Eid, a large gathering of Muslims had reportedly assembled in the historic Sarasbaug area. In this backdrop, several devout Hindu organisations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Sakal Hindu Samaj, Patit Pavan Sanghatana, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Vichar Manch, Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Yuva Vichar Manch, and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, jointly organised a “Hindu Rashtra-Jagruti Andolan”. Memorandums regarding the issue were also submitted to Pune Police, the Pune Municipal Commissioner, and the District Collector’s office. Trustees of the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple, located within the Sarasbaug premises, had likewise requested the administration to keep the garden closed after Bakri Eid. Thereafter, Mayor Mrs Manjusha Nagpure stated on social media on 26 May that, “Preventive orders are currently in force in the city, and in this context, it has been decided to keep Sarasbaug Garden closed for security reasons.”
