A case has been registered against former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Siliguri Cyber Police Station after one year!

Case of making remarks against Sanatan Dharma, saying, 'I do not believe in such a dirty religion'

Kolkata (Bengal) – A case has been registered against former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Siliguri Cyber Police Station. She had called Sanatan Dharma a ‘Dirty religion’ (ganda dharm) at a programme organised in Kolkata on the occasion of Eid in the year 2025. In this case, the police have registered an offence under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have initiated an investigation.

1. After a case was registered against Mamata Banerjee, a video is being circulated on social media. In it, she is seen stating that she does not believe in a dirty religion, created by the ‘Jumla (false promise) party’. (This gives rise to questions like – Why does Mamata Banerjee continue to remain in such a religion? Why has she not embraced any another religion so far? – Editor)

2. Advocate Rinki Chatterjee Singh has filed a complaint against Mamata Banerjee. The complaint states that this statement hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. The complaint alleges that some Trinamool Congress leaders have been making objectionable statements about Hinduism in the past as well.

3. Rinki Chatterjee Singh claimed that she had tried to file a complaint in the year 2025 as well; However, at that time, no one heard her and she had to face harassment.

4. Trinamool Congress’ Darjeeling group general secretary and advocate Atri Sharma also called this statement inappropriate.

Editorial Perspective

  • When Mamata Banerjee was in power, no complaint was even registered with the police against her; This shows that dictatorship was prevailing there.
  • Despite making such statements against Sanatan Dharma, no call for her beheading (sar tan se juda) was ever issued. Of course, there is no need to state what would have happened if she had made similar remarks about other religions.
