6 Bangladeshi women arrested

Pune – Police received information that Bangladeshi women were residing illegally in the ‘Sagar Building’ in Budhwar Peth. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone 1, Rishikesh Rawale, the police conducted a raid on the building. During this operation, six Bangladeshi women were taken into custody. During interrogation, it came to light that these women had illegally infiltrated into India. A case has been registered against them at Faraskhana Police Station for illegal residence.

1. During police interrogation, it was revealed that agents had lured the women to India with promises of providing jobs in beauty parlours, tailoring, and domestic work.

2. These women were later brought to brothels in Budhwar Peth and were threatened and forced into prostitution.

3. Investigation is underway into how these Bangladeshi women crossed the Indian border and how they obtained documents while residing in India.

Only 103 Bangladeshi nationals detained 1 year!

Deputy Commissioner Rawale informed that only 103 Bangladeshi nationals residing in the central parts of the city without valid documents had been detained over the past year. Deputy Commissioner Rawale informed that the process of deporting many of them back to their native country has been completed. (When crores of Bangladeshis are residing in India, how is it that only this many have been found in Pune city over an entire year ? – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

  • It would not be wrong to say that just as the police generally have complete knowledge of where drug trafficking takes place and who is involved in it, they are also aware of the areas in the city where infiltrators operate openly. Therefore, the failure to take strict action against Bangladeshi infiltrators and the agents bringing them into India is condemnable!
  • Isn’t ‘Smart City Pune’ being unsafe a matter of shame for the police or is Pune “smart” only in name?
