London (Britain) – A mother and son belonging to a family originally from Haryana have simultaneously become mayors of different towns in Britain. Son Tushar Elstree has become the youngest Mayor of the ‘Borehamwood Town Council’, while his mother Parveen Rani Dahiya has been elected as the first Mayor of Indian origin of the ‘Hertsmere Borough Council’.

1. The family originally belongs to the Kharkhoda area in Sonipat district of Haryana; however, they lived in Rohtak for a long period before moving to Britain in 2013.

2. Tushar’s father, Sunil Dahiya, said that when he arrived in Britain with his wife and two children, he had never imagined that the family would attain such recognition. “When we came to Britain, Tushar was only 10 years old. Today, it is a matter of pride for us that both a mother and son of Indian origin have become mayors at the same time.”
