Declare the Cow as the ‘National Animal’!

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani’s demand to the Central government

New Delhi – On the backdrop of Bakrid, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani demanded that the Central government declare the cow as the ‘National Animal’, so that politics and violence over this issue can be permanently stopped. Madani also said, “Whoever sells a cow to a butcher, whoever purchases it, and whoever consumes its meat, all are guilty.” (Several States in India already have laws banning cow slaughter. Yet many among Maulana Madani’s own community continue to engage in cow slaughter openly. Ignoring this reality and merely advising the Government on what it should do appears to be a feeble attempt by Madani to absolve himself of responsibility. – Editor)

“Nowhere is it written that a cow must be sacrificed for Bakrid” – Former Vice President Hamid Ansari

Former Vice President of India Hamid Ansari has also expressed an important opinion on this matter now. He said that many people practice animal sacrifice because it is in accordance with their religious beliefs. Whether it is a cow, camel, or goat is a separate matter. If people object to cow sacrifice, then the government should seriously consider Maulana Madani’s proposal.”

Ansari has given a clear message to Muslims, saying, “Nowhere is it written that only a cow must be sacrificed for Bakrid. One can sacrifice a goat as well. Many people are doing it. There are many who cannot even afford to buy a goat. I leave it to the Government of India and its wisdom to find a solution to this issue.”

Editorial Perspective

  • After pressure has been mounted on Muslims, such statements are now beginning to emerge openly from them! Hindus feel that the Government should now seriously consider this demand and take a decision accordingly!
  • Why do Maulanas not issue a fatwa stating, “Do not slaughter cows; it is not prescribed in Islam”? This reveals how much concern they truly have for cows.
