Set up detention centres for infiltrators; WB Govt orders all districts to implement measures

Kolkata – The BJP government in West Bengal has directed all districts to establish temporary detention centres for foreign nationals residing illegally. The Home Department has ordered that necessary facilities be created at these centres to house such individuals until the formalities related to their deportation are completed. The State Government clarified that this action is being taken in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry in May last year.

According to the Union Government guidelines, detained suspects may be kept in these centres for up to 30 days until verification of their documents is completed. The decision regarding determination of citizenship will be taken by the District Collector or an officer of equivalent rank.
