Dombivli – Police have taken into custody 24 Nigerian nationals from the high-end residential complexes Downtown and Crown Palava in the Khoni-Palava area. Some of these individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. There are 14 men, 6 women and 4 small children among them. Eight of them have valid documents for residence in India, while the others do not possess any official documents for staying in the country. Cases related to drug trafficking have been registered against nine of them at police stations in Thane, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai.

One Nigerian woman tried to escape by jumping from a fourth-floor balcony while police were conducting a raid in the area. She has been admitted to a hospital.

Legal action will also be taken against the house owners who rented out their houses to Nigerian citizens without prior intimation to the Police.

Editorial Perspective

The entire state of Maharashtra appears to be infested with infiltrators! Why was the process of taking them into custody not carried out earlier? How did no one notice in time that Nigerian citizens were residing illegally? Action should also be taken against the responsible authorities in this case!
