Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand to launch a website named “Go-LX” for cow protection

Cows will be bought and sold through the website

Varanasi (UP) – Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati of Dwarka and Jyothish Peeth has decided to develop a website called “Go-LX,” through which cows will be bought and sold.

Cow vigilantes can buy cows

The Shankaracharya said that any cattle owner or trader wishing to sell a cow can post an advertisement on the website. If any Hindu wishes to sell a cow, he should sell it to him. “We are ready to buy cows. We will not allow cows to be slaughtered, nor will we allow any butcher to purchase them. We will buy the cows and take care of them. People dedicated to cow protection will also be able to buy and serve these cows.”

Purpose behind launching the website

Explaining the reason for the decision to facilitate online cow purchases, the Shankaracharya said that a narrative is being spread through social media and some news media that if Muslims stop buying cows or stop consuming beef, Hindu cattle owners will face economic hardship. “We will buy cows that have stopped giving milk or are being sold to butchers. No true Hindu can sell his cow for slaughter. If a person truly has Hindu values, he will never hand over a cow to a butcher.”

He said that the purpose of the “Go-LX” platform is to prevent cows from reaching slaughterhouses under any circumstances. The platform will function on the lines of OLX, the online buying-and-selling website.

Support for cow slaughter ban from Muslims

The Shankaracharya stated that there are also members of the Muslim community in India who support a ban on cow slaughter. According to him, many Muslims are supporting the initiative and have acknowledged that “consuming beef is not an essential religious duty in Islam.” He welcomed such people and said that if cow slaughter and beef consumption stops in the country, it would strengthen social harmony and mutual goodwill.

Editorial Perspective

  • Even though anti-cow slaughter laws exist in many states of the country, cow slaughter still continues; it is shameful for Governments that Shankaracharyas have to make efforts to stop this.
  • To permanently stop cow slaughter in the country, establishment of a Hindu Rashtra governed by rulers who abide by the Dharma is necessary!
