Sales of leaked NEET paper across 5 States; Highest number of purchases in Maharashtra

  • NEET paper leak case

  • List prepared of parents who purchased the leaked question papers

Mumbai – Investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has revealed that Maharashtra was the epicentre of NEET paper leak case. From Maharashtra, the racket spread to five other States, including Rajasthan. The highest sale of leaked question papers took place in Maharashtra, followed by Rajasthan. 11 individuals have been arrested so far in this matter, of whom the highest number, seven accused, are from Maharashtra.

Interrogation of parents who transferred money has now begun, and since the night of 21 May, the CBI has initiated major action in Maharashtra. Some parents themselves purchased the leaked paper and then sold it further to other students, thereby creating a chain network. Because of this, determining the exact number of students to whom the paper reached has become a major challenge before the investigating agencies. The CBI has prepared a list of all parents who transferred money into the bank accounts of the main suspects, Prof. Shivraj Motegaonkar, P.V. Kulkarni, and their Pune-based associate Manisha Waghmare. After arresting the main mastermind behind the leak, three special CBI teams are now searching for parents and students who purchased the leaked paper.

After Maharashtra, raids are likely to be conducted soon in other States as well. There is also suspicion that, apart from officials connected with the National Testing Agency, some influential outsiders were involved in the racket. Two separate CBI teams are independently working to gather evidence against them. On 21 May, Congress workers in Jaipur came out onto the streets and staged intense protests against the NEET paper leak, demanding strict action against the guilty.
