A country with a history of genocide should not preach India: Harish Parvathaneni, India’s Representative to the UN

  • India strongly rebukes Pakistan at the United Nations

  • Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue

Harish Parvataneni

New York (USA) – India sharply criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council. During a discussion at the Council, Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue, alleging that India had illegally occupied the region and calling for a plebiscite there. In response, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations strongly criticised Pakistan. India’s representative Harish Parvathaneni said that it was contradictory for Pakistan, which has a long history stained by genocide, to comment on matters that are entirely India’s internal affairs, and that it has no right to do so.

Referring further to Pakistan’s severe attacks on Afghanistan earlier this year, Parvathaneni said that during the holy month of Ramzan, Pakistan had carried out a horrific attack on a hospital in Kabul. In this inhumane act of violence, 269 civilians were killed. The incident occurred at a place that had no military target whatsoever. It cannot be justified under any circumstances. Despite this, Pakistan speaking about the principles of international law is an act of hypocrisy.

Editorial Perspective

India should not merely expose Pakistan’s hypocrisy at the United Nations but also formulate a strategy and act to bring the entirety of Kashmir under its own control. Only then will such strong statements will have an impact rather than remaining only verbal warnings.
