We will definitely slaughter cows on Bakri Eid: MLA Humayun Kabir

Humayun Kabir and Shubhendu Adhikari

Murshidabad (West Bengal) – The BJP Government in West Bengal, while issuing guidelines regarding animal sacrifice during Bakri Eid, has prohibited the sacrifice of cows as well as sick and underage animals. Even though cow slaughter has already been banned in the state, local MLA Humayun Kabir has declared, “We will definitely slaughter cows on Bakri Eid.” (MLA Humayun should be arrested immediately, imprisoned, and put on leash! So that he does not dare again to make such statements or commit cow slaughter. – Editor) MLA Humayun is also constructing a Babri Masjid.

He said, “I am directly telling Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari not to play with fire. If he tries to impose restrictions on sacrifice, he will face difficulties. Muslims will not compromise on the issue of sacrifice. Cows will definitely be sacrificed on Bakri Eid, no matter what Shubhendu does.”

If there is any interference in religious matters, the environment in the state will deteriorate

Humayun Kabir also threatened regarding the Government’s directives on offering namaz, saying that if any attempt is made to interfere in religious matters, the environment in the state would worsen, and the Government itself would be responsible.

Muslim organisations support Humayun

After Humayun Kabir’s statement, some Muslim organisations openly came forward in his support. They said, “Religious freedom is a constitutional right; therefore no attempt should be made to ban or target the traditions of any community.”

Editorial Perspective

  • If Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray were alive today, he would have declared that, “If anyone slaughters cows on that day, Hindus should sacrifice pigs and organise feasts of pork meat!”
  • When Muslims already have the tradition of sacrificing goats on Bakri Eid, cow slaughter has been carried out only to hurt Hindu sentiments. Even in many states where cow slaughter is banned, Muslims deliberately continue it. It is from the same mindset that Humayun Kabir is issuing this challenge. It has now become necessary to enact a law treating such acts as murder and awarding the death penalty to those responsible.
