‘Gym Jihad’ case from Mirzapur
(Gym Jihad refers to cases where religious fanatic trainers lure Hindu women visiting gyms into romantic relationships and exploit them.)

Mirzapur (UP) – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a strict stand regarding alleged Gym Jihad and religious conversion cases in the city. Following his directions, action has been initiated under the Gangster Act against 10 accused belonging to a Love Jihad gang involved in crimes against women. The accused include Maulvi Khalilur Rahman and gym trainer Imran Khan, among others, who operated an organised network.
1. According to investigating agencies, the gang systematically targeted Hindu women through a planned operation.
2. The accused used to lure Hindu women into romantic relationships under the pretext of fitness training. Later, they used to establish physical relations with the victims, followed by blackmailing victims using objectionable videos and photographs.
3. Police are attempting to identify other people allegedly connected to the gang.
What is the Uttar Pradesh ‘Gangster Act’?
The ‘Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986’ is a stringent law aimed at curbing organised crime and criminal gangs. Under this law, a convicted person can face imprisonment ranging from a minimum of 2 years to a maximum of 10 years, along with a minimum fine of ₹5,000. Authorities are also empowered to trace and seize properties and assets acquired through illegal activities.
