NEET exam to be conducted online from next year: Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education

Re-examination will be held on 21 June

New Delhi – Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced at a press conference in Delhi on 15th May that the NEET examination will be conducted online from next year onwards. After it came to light on 7th May that the question paper of the NEET examination held on 3rd May 2026 had allegedly been leaked, the Union Government announced on 12th May that the examination itself was being cancelled. The examination conducted on 3rd May 2026 was held in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. More than 5,400 examination centres had been set up for this purpose. A total of 22.79 lakh students appeared for the examination.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “We did not want any undeserving candidate to get selected; therefore, understanding our responsibility, we decided to cancel the examination. The examination will now be held on Sunday, 21st June. Admit cards will start being issued from 14th June. Students will receive an additional 15 minutes during the examination. Students will also get 7 days’ time to choose the examination centre of their preference for the re-examination.”

7 individuals arrested so far in the paper leak case

So far, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 7 individuals in connection with the NEET paper leak case. Among them, 5 accused — Mangi Lal Binwal from Rajasthan, his brother Dinesh Binwal from Jamwaramgarh and his son Vikas Binwal, Yash Yadav from Gurugram in Haryana, and Shubham Khairnar from Nashik — were produced before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. The court remanded all five accused to 7 days of Police custody. In addition, the CBI had also arrested beautician Manisha Waghmare from Pune and Dhananjay Lokhande from Nashik.
