US President Donald Trump’s visit to China

Beijing (China) – US President Donald Trump is currently on a visit to China. On 14 May, he met Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders held a two-hour meeting during which discussions took place on the Iran war, the Ukraine crisis and other global issues. At the beginning of the meeting, Xi Jinping said that the entire world is closely watching this meeting. He said that the world is changing rapidly and that US-China relations are crucial for global stability. Both nations should become partners rather than competitors.

On this occasion, Trump said that it was an honour for the United States to be China’s friend. He added that relations between the United States and China would become even better than before. He also informed that several prominent business leaders had accompanied him on the visit.

Taiwan is the most important issue in US-China relations: Xi Jinping

During the meeting, Xi Jinping told Trump that Taiwan is the most important issue in US-China relations. He warned that if this issue is handled incorrectly, the situation could become dangerous. He further stated that Taiwan’s independence and peace in the Taiwan Strait are contradictory concepts.

China is the sole cause of regional instability; Taiwan’s response  

Following Xi Jinping’s statement, Taiwan issued a response. The Taiwanese Government stated that China’s military activities are the primary cause of instability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region. Michelle Lee, spokesperson for Taiwan’s Cabinet, said that China’s military threats are the sole cause of regional tensions. She added that strengthening defence capabilities is essential for maintaining security.
