NEET exam cancelled due to paper leak

  • CBI to conduct probe

  • New exam date to be declared soon

(NEET – ‘National Eligibility cum Entrance Test’)

New Delhi – The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET examination conducted on 3 May 2026 for admission to medical courses. The examination was cancelled after the question paper was leaked before the exam. The agency stated that the fresh examination date will be announced soon. Around 23 lakh students had appeared for the examination. The entire process will now have to be conducted again.

According to the official statement issued by the NTA, investigation agencies had raised serious concerns regarding the transparency of the examination process. To preserve the credibility of the system and prevent injustice to honest students, the decision was taken to cancel the examination and conduct it again. The entire matter has now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a detailed investigation.

‘Guess paper’ contained 600 out of 720 questions!

Several students in Rajasthan had received handwritten ‘guess papers’ that reportedly matched the actual examination questions. On 10 May, the ‘Rajasthan Special Action Group’ detained 13 suspects from Dehradun, Sikar and Jhunjhunu based on confidential information. During the investigation, it was revealed that 600 out of the total 720 questions had already been answered by students in Sikar two days before the examination.

In one instance, an MBBS student from a medical college in Kerala had sent a ‘guess paper’ on 1 May to his friend in Sikar. The paper later reached the operator of a coaching class in Sikar, who distributed it among students staying there. As a result, the paper spread to several people.

Editorial Perspective

Why are no strict measures implemented despite repeated incidents of question paper leaks in examinations conducted at both the State and Union Government levels ? Who will compensate students for the financial loss, mental stress and waste of time caused due to the cancellation of examinations ?
