Chennai (Tamil Nadu) – Although actor Joseph Vijay’s TVK party has won the highest number of seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, it has failed to secure the majority mark. Therefore, despite meeting Governor R N Ravi twice, the party has not been invited to form the government. It is being said that the Governor told them, “Bring a letter showing the support of 118 MLAs, and then you will be invited.” The Governor has reportedly assured Vijay that, “I will not invite any other party to form the government.”

Even though, as per convention, the Governor is expected to invite the single largest party to form the government, TVK has not been called. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam – Dravidian Progressive Federation) and the AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) may form an alliance. Due to this, Joseph Vijay’s party has warned that if these two Dravidian parties attempt to stake claim to form the government, all TVK MLAs will resign.

On the morning of 8th May, TVK supporters staged protests and raised slogans outside the Raj Bhavan. Police detained several supporters. According to sources, discussions are underway between TVK and a rebel faction of the AIADMK regarding the Deputy Chief Minister’s post and portfolio distribution; however, General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is opposing the move.
