Oath-taking ceremony today

Kolkata (Bengal) – The BJP legislature party has selected Suvendu Adhikari as the new Chief Minister of Bengal. This name was finalised in a meeting held here under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on 09.05.2026, in Kolkata. Suvendu Adhikari had defeated the then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram in the 2021 assembly elections and from Bhabanipur in the current elections.

Suvendu Adhikari was earlier in the Trinamool Congress Party and had been even a minister. He was considered to be close associate of Mamata Banerjee; however, he left the Trinamool Congress and joined the BJP after facing allegations in the Saradha scam case.
