Asansol (Bengal) – BJP’s win in the Bengal Assembly elections resulted in the re-opening of Shri Durgadevi Temple at Asansol after fifteen years. The temple, which was closed due to local disputes and administrative restrictions, has been re-opened for devotees after fifteen years. Only during Durga-puja and Lakshmi-puja festivals in the year, a small number of devotees used to visit the temple. North Asansol’s BJP candidate, Krishnendu Mukherjee had promised before the elections to open the temple as soon as he was elected. On 04.05.2026, the results were out in favour of BJP. Mr Mukherjee reached the temple as promised, opened the temple lock and performed ‘puja’.
