Action at Mumbai International Airport

Mumbai – The Customs Department conducted a major anti-smuggling operation on 1st and 2nd May at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. During the action carried out by the officials, gold worth crores of rupees, electronic items, and foreign cigarettes were seized. Two passengers were detained in this case. They had concealed the gold within their clothes and on their bodies.

Customs officials also carried out a technical inspection of an aircraft. During the examination of two lavatories located at the rear of the plane, eight packets wrapped in adhesive tape were found cleverly stuck inside the foreign-made lavatory unit. These packets contained gold and other prohibited items. The method adopted by the smugglers left even the officials astonished. All the seized goods have been deposited in a government warehouse.
