Calling India a Hindu Rashtra is unconstitutional : Complaint against Sarsanghchalak

Nagpur, Maharashtra – ‘They ask us to declare India a Hindu Rashtra; but we say that India is a Hindu Rashtra, there is no need to declare so,’ stated RSS’s Sarsanghchalak Param Pujya Dr Mohanji Bhagwat at a programme here a few days ago. Now, social activist Janardan Moon from Nagpur has filed a Police complaint against him. ‘The Sarsanghchalak’s statement is against the fundamental principles of secularism, equality, equality of all religions and national integration in the Constitution. This is likely to create religious polarization and division in the society,’ the complainant has said.

The complaint further states that,

1. The attempt to link India to a particular religion is inconsistent with the secular principles of the Constitution and is an attack on the sacrifices made in the freedom struggle, constitutional values and the fundamental spirit of democracy.

2. India is a country of diverse religions, languages, cultures and traditions, and the concept of ‘secular nation’ enshrined in the Constitution is the cornerstone of the country’s unity.

Editorial Perspective

  • This should be called a great discovery from the complainant.
  • The Congress altered the original Constitution written by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and inserted the words 'secularism' and 'socialism'. Does the complainant not consider this action unconstitutional ?
  • Those who do not even know what 'Hindu Rashtra' means, are talking about it. This is indeed their intellectual bankruptcy.
