Bengaluru –  The incident occurred in the Sanjeevininagar area of Bengaluru, where the woman had been living with her partner in a rented house for the past three to four years. The deceased, Agatha Baitiangam, was a native of Meghalaya.

According to preliminary investigations, she was in a live-in relationship with Nawaz Sharif, a resident of Manipur who worked as a security guard at a private establishment. The victim was also employed.

The couple had frequent arguments, reportedly due to Nawaz Sharif’s suspicious nature.  He would get suspicious even if the woman talked to her mother and sister on the mobile and fight with her. He would not allow her to talk to anyone. Consequently, a depressed Agatha hanged herself at home.

Police investigation is underway.

Editorial Perspective

Live-in relationships are driven mainly by physical needs and lack social, moral, or religious commitment, which can lead to emotional distress; in some cases, extreme step like suicide – such incidents call for stricter regulation, like banning such relationships.
