His statement draws criticism(DNA, deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary molecule containing the biological instructions for the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of all known living organisms) |

New Delhi – All Indians have Bhagavan Mahadev’s DNA, is the statement of Jamia Millia Islamia University’s (JMIU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Mazhar Asif and it is drawing criticism. In a ‘Yuva Kumbh’ programme organised by JMIU on the completion of RSS’s centenary, the VC’s statement was made viral through a video on social media, after which he was criticised.
What did the VC Mazhar Asif say?
In this video, VC Asif is seen saying that “Looking at all the people sitting here, I don’t feel that their mother-tongue, upbringing or culture is the same. I am saying this from a geographical point of view. They may not be from the same region. Their Dharma may also be different, but despite all this, we are still Indians because we have Bhagavan Mahadev’s DNA.”
Jamia students oppose
The JMIU students had earlier protested against the Jamia administration granting permission to hold an RSS programme. Now, after such a statement, Jamia’s Students Federation of India’s branch condemned this incident. The organisation reacted by declaring that they strongly condemned the statement made by VC Azhar Asif in Jamia. This institute is known for its excellence in education and the sciences. The statement of the VC is unscientific and baseless. (Would Hindu students from any university protest to a Hindu VC criticising Hindu Dharma? – Editor)
BJP supports the statement

On his ‘X’ account, Amit Malviya, the BJP’s head of the IT department, has stated that it is wrong to take Asif’s statement literally and miss its broader meaning. Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad had constantly argued that Indian Muslims are an inseparable part of its mixed culture, who are connected to this land and lineage like Hindus. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan had emphasised this point of view and stated that lineage or origin doesn’t change due to conversions. Even Mohammad Iqbal, who is mostly known as ‘Allama Iqbal’, and was the founder of the Pakistan movement and advocated for a separate Muslim State, had also accepted the cultural legacy of India as per the times and described Bhagavan Ram as ‘Imam-e-Hind’, i.e. a spiritual Guru of the people of this land. In this context, the statement made by the VC is not divisive but a symbol of unity. It is a deep echo of an ancient intellectual tradition which goes beyond the religious boundaries and accepts Indians as the legal heirs of a culture of that period.
This is an attempt to convert Indian education into ‘Hinduism’– Pakistan
Tahir Andrabi, a spokesperson of Pakistan’s foreign ministry, has alleged on the post that the world should come forward to protect Indian Muslims’ language and identity. The world cannot keep mum on such matters. The RSS programme was held at Jamia Milia. It was an attempt to convert education in India into Hinduism and an attack on the institutions run by minorities in India.
