Mumbai – After Dabholkar’s murder, the then Congress Chief Minister pointed fingers at devout Hindu organisations within an hour, and the investigation proceeded in that direction. At times, claims were made using ‘planchette’ that Dabholkar’s spirit was naming Sanatan Sanstha, while at other times, such direct allegations were made by Dabholkar’s activists. Despite all this, Sanatan Sanstha and its seekers faced the entire investigation calmly. At no point was any allegation made that the organisation or its seekers did not cooperate with investigating agencies.

Against this backdrop, the investigation in the case continued under the supervision of the High Court from 2015 to 2023. Even in such circumstances, nothing was found against the organisation during the investigation. Of the five accused, three had already been acquitted earlier by the Sessions Court. Of the remaining two who were convicted, one of them – devout Hindu youth Sharad Kalaskar – was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on April 29. It is significant that the High Court granted bail observing that it had not been proven that Sharad Kalaskar was present at the crime scene.

For the past 10 years, Sanatan Sanstha has maintained that it has no involvement in the case, yet repeated attempts were made to implicate it. “At least now, after the court’s decisions, will these people remain silent ?” questioned Mr Abhay Vartak, Spokesperson, Sanatan Sanstha.

Mr Vartak further said that, in this case, the stance of Dabholkar’s family at various times appeared to be, “It does not matter if the real killers are not found; rather, leave aside the real culprits, but somehow implicate Sanatan seekers.” This indicates that their focus was not on finding the actual killers, but on targeting devout Hindus. “As a Hindu organisation, we stand with every Hindu who has faced injustice and will continue to do so. We wholeheartedly congratulate senior advocate Nitin Pradhan, advocate Siddhavidya, advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, advocate Shubhada Khot, and all associate advocates who fought this legal battle for bail. We have faith in the goddess of justice that both the accused will receive justice and will soon be acquitted,” Vartak added.
