Statement by actress Reem Shaikh

Mumbai – Television actress Reem Shaikh stated, “I would never marry a man from another religious background. I cannot marry someone who does not follow Islam. I am a very religious person and I offer namaz five times a day.” She made this statement in response to a question during an interview about whether, given that her own family has an example of an interfaith marriage, she could fall in love with someone from another religion. Reem Shaikh’s mother is Hindu and her father is Muslim; they divorced five years ago due to frequent conflicts.

Reem further explained that she follows her religion very seriously. She observes fasting during Ramadan and turns to prayer whenever she faces difficulties in life. She said that she cannot spend her life with someone who does not believe in or follow her religion. According to her, for a happy married life, it is essential that both husband and wife follow the same religion.
