“My apologies if someone’s sentiments are hurt. I cannot disrespect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj even in my dreams” : Dhirendra Krishna Shastri

Nagpur, Maharashtra – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj remains an enduring source of inspiration. “It is because of his legacy that the spirit of Hindutva continues to thrive today. I cannot even think of showing disrespect towards such a great figure. However, if my words have inadvertently hurt anyone’s sentiments, I offer my heartfelt apology,” said Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, clarifying his intent.

The clarification follows a controversy triggered by his remarks concerning Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Samarth Ramdas Swami during a discourse in Nagpur.

He further stated that his intention was solely to express reverence, but some misconstrued his words. “Drawing inspiration from the Swarajya established by Shivaji Maharaj, we are committed to the ideal of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ and will never tolerate any disrespect towards him. All those who revere Shivaji Maharaj are our brethren. Internal discord over such issues will only benefit those who oppose our faith.”

Clarifying his remark that “every family should dedicate one son to the Sangh,” he said he intended to encourage families to raise individuals with strong patriotic and Sanatan values—whether as administrators, educators, or professionals, they must be rooted in a firm Sanatan ideology.

What was the controversy?

At a public event in Nagpur, Shastri had stated that “weary of war, Shivaji Maharaj offered his crown at the feet of Samarth.” This remark drew criticism from certain groups, who alleged that it distorted historical facts.
