Will India step in to stop the Iran Conflict ?

Big signal from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during his Germany visit

Berlin (Germany) – India has made efforts to help restore peace in the West Asian crisis, but every initiative has its appropriate timing. That moment may arrive soon, when India could step in, play a constructive role, and most probably succeed. This possibility cannot be ruled out, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while responding to a question.

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already urged both countries to end the conflict. “In diplomatic matters, the Prime Minister’s approach remains measured and balanced,” Singh noted.

Rajnath Singh is on a three-day official visit to Germany from 21 to 23 April 2026. The visit aims to strengthen strategic defence ties and outline a new framework for defence industrial cooperation between the two countries.

India’s balanced diplomatic approach

Speaking in Berlin, Singh highlighted that Prime Minister Modi discussed conflict resolution during his meetings with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He also raised similar concerns during discussions with Donald Trump, stressing the need to find a solution.

Referring to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Singh noted that at one point, maritime movement was severely restricted. Despite this, 7 to 8 Indian vessels were able to navigate the region. This does not mean that the United States considers India an enemy, or that Iran views India as an adversary. On the contrary, this reflects India’s highly balanced approach.
