Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge calls PM Modi a ‘terrorist’

Kharge attempts damage control after facing backlash

Chennai – Congress national president and Member of Parliament Mallikarjun Kharge referred to Prime Minister Modi as a “terrorist.” Following criticism over this remark, he attempted to clarify and defend his statement. It is said that he used such language on the last day of campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, in the context of AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) joining the BJP alliance.

At a press conference, MP Kharge said, “How can AIADMK join hands with Modi? He is a terrorist. He does not believe in equality. His party also does not believe in equality and justice. These people are aligning with him, which means they are weakening democracy.”

“I did not call him a terrorist”: MP Kharge

After facing criticism for his statement, Kharge issued a clarification, saying, “I did not call him a ‘terrorist.’ I said that he (Prime Minister Modi) frightens people. I intended to speak in the context of intimidation. I want to clarify that Modi always intimidates. I have explained in sequence that the Income Tax Department, the Enforcement Directorate—these institutions are all under his control. I never called him a terrorist. He is instilling fear among people.”

Kharge’s previous controversial statements about Prime Minister Modi

1. During the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, Kharge compared Prime Minister Modi to a “poisonous snake.”

2. During the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, he compared Prime Minister Modi to “Ravana,” asking, “Do you have 100 heads like Ravana?”

Editorial Perspective

Due to their animosity toward Modi, Congress leaders are making such statements, thereby their sense of judgement and intellectual bankruptcy.
