Government should implement a ‘drug-free Maharashtra’ campaign !

Demand by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti through a press release !

Mumbai – The death of a young man and woman at a music concert in Goregaon and the growing drug trade in the state are signs that Maharashtra is heading towards becoming another ‘Udta Punjab’. Therefore, without any delay, the government should immediately implement a ‘drug-free Maharashtra’ campaign. Programmes such as ‘Sunburn’, music concerts, and rave parties, which are considered contrary to Indian culture, are destroying the lives of the younger generation. Strict action should be taken against the organisers and the administrative authorities responsible for this, demanded the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti through a press release. The organisation has earlier also strongly opposed the ‘Sunburn Festival’ held in Mumbai and Goa, stating that the social and national harm caused by such events is far more serious than the revenue generated from them.

The organisation stated in the press release:

1.   The widespread network of narcotics is not limited to addiction alone but constitutes a major war weakening the nation.

2.   According to data from the Anti-Narcotics Cell, narcotics worth ₹2,000 crore were seized in 2025, and drug manufacturing units were found in cities like Nashik, Mumbai, and Satara — posing a serious threat to national security.

3.   Since India lies between the ‘Golden Crescent’ (drug-producing region) and the ‘Golden Triangle’ (region producing opium and heroin), the country is being used by traffickers as a transit route.

4.   The government should take serious cognisance of this issue and crack down not only on traffickers but also on organisers of such events, in order to free the younger generation from this menace.
