  • Villagers warn that they will launch an agitation due to the inaction of the administration and police.

Khopoli (Dist Raigad) – Villagers have warned of launching an intense agitation as they have not received a satisfactory response from the municipal administration and police in the matter of desecration of the Vetal Devasthan in Lavhej village. In a meeting held at the village Hanuman Temple, the villagers unanimously decided to agitate. They have also demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. The Vetal Devasthan has existed at this location for more than 50 years, and villagers have been regularly offering prayers there. However, villagers have alleged that a contractor partially shifted the Devasthan during the night.

Villagers had also taken out a morcha regarding this issue. At that time, Nagaradhyaksha Kuldeep Shete had assured that justice would be delivered at the earliest; however, no concrete action has been taken so far. (What does the Nagaradhyaksha have to say about this ? – Editor) Villagers have also alleged that the police are resorting to delay in the matter.

Editorial Perspective

  • It is unfortunate that Hindus have to agitate to seek justice in a Hindu-majority state like Maharashtra.
  • Administrative and police officials who remain inactive in such cases should be dismissed and imprisoned.
