A fivefold increase in sexual harassment complaints in the ‘TCS’ establishment

Allegations of increased sexual harassment complaints in the IT sector

 

Pune – Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) revealed in its annual report that there has been a fivefold increase in sexual harassment complaints in that IT sector’s leading establishment during the financial year 2020 – 2025. Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of the ‘Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate’ (NITES), stated that such incidents were also happening on a large scale in other establishments in the IT sector.

Saluja said the Union Labour Minister had taken note of the complaints of sexual harassment of female employees in TCS. He instructed the Chief Labour Commissioner to take immediate action and submit a report.

In the financial year 2020-21, they received 27 complaints of sexual harassment of female employees. In the financial year 2024-25, the number of these complaints increased to 125. Out of these, 102 complaints were resolved, while 23 complaints were pending. The proportion of sexual harassment complaints among the total female employees was 0.05 % in the year 2023-24, but increased to 0.06 % in the year 2024-25.
