Pakistan: Terrorist Amir Hamza shot by unidentified gunmen; condition critical

Lahore (Pakistan) – Terrorist Amir Hamza, one of the founding members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was shot by unidentified gunmen outside the office of a news channel here. He was injured in the attack and has been admitted to a hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Earlier, in May last year, he was also shot at by unidentified persons outside his residence. Hamza has been designated as a ‘terrorist’ by the United States. He was involved in terrorist attacks in India and is considered the handler behind the terrorist attack on the Indian Army’s brigade headquarters in Sunjuwan, Jammu.

Amir Hamza is regarded as a senior and experienced commander of the Afghan Mujahideen. Apart from his involvement in militancy, he was also known for writing several books. He was considered a close associate of terrorist Hafiz Saeed. In Lashkar-e-Taiba, his role included fundraising, recruitment of new terrorists, and liaison with other organisations.

Hamza had participated in the 1980s war in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. Following that, he became associated with Hafiz Saeed and other terrorists.
