Bhopal – A fresh political flashpoint has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after the government announced plans to launch a Temple Management course for MBA students at Samrat Vikramaditya University.

The government is pitching the course as a gateway to boost religious tourism and generate employment. Still, the opposition has launched a fierce attack, alleging that the move is driven by a ‘religious agenda.’

Congress leader and former minister P. C. Sharma accused the government of politicising education, turning what could be an administrative initiative into a heated ideological battle. (There are lakhs of temples in the country, with transactions worth crores of rupees. This sector can provide employment opportunities to the youth. Ensuring youth employment is the government’s duty. It is obvious that the Congress itself is pushing its real agenda of Muslim appeasement by linking this initiative to religion – Editor)

What is driving the controversy ?

1. Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar defended the move, asserting that it will professionalise temple administration and open new job avenues for the youth.

2. The course will be rolled out from Ujjain, a major religious hub, highlighting its strategic focus on temple-based tourism.

3. University officials say the program will replace age-old management systems with modern, scientific management practices.

4. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arpan Bhardwaj confirmed that admissions have already begun for the July session.

A first-of-its-kind initiative

Samrat Vikramaditya University is set to become the first university in the state to offer an MBA in Temple Management, marking a bold and unconventional step in higher education.
