Drug overdose at Mumbai event: 6 arrested in death of a young man and woman

Mumbai: At a music concert held at the NESCO Center in Goregaon, large-scale consumption of the drug MDMA was reported. Due to an alleged overdose, a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman lost their lives.

Police have registered a case of culpable homicide in connection with the incident. Several other attendees had also consumed alcohol, and some reportedly fainted during the event. They were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

A total of 6 individuals have been arrested in the case. These include event organizers Sunny Jain and Akash Samal, manager Balkrishna Kurup, Raunak Khandelwal, and alleged drug suppliers Anand Patel and Pratik Pandey. All the accused have been remanded to police custody until April 16th.

The event was attended by approximately 3,000 to 4,000 young people. While dancing, several individuals suddenly experienced health complications. It is reported that yellow-coloured pills were distributed among attendees. Additionally, one student remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the government is taking strong action against drug-related crimes and has established an extensive network to apprehend those involved swiftly.

This drug is commonly available in pill or powder form. Its consumption can lead to increased energy and euphoria, along with a rise in heart rate. In severe cases, it may cause organ failure, depression, and even death.
