Govt Blocks More than 1400 URLs for Giving False Information During ‘Operation Sindoor’

New Delhi – Various false and confusing news were spread on social and digital media when Indian army was carrying out the mission ‘Operation Sindoor’. On 01.04.2026, the Information and Broadcasting Minister (State) Dr L Murugan shared the information on the action taken by the Central Government in this connection. He stated that more than 1400 URLs on digital media were blocked for spreading false news. In a written answer to a question, he also mentioned that ‘Fact Check Unit’ has so far published 2913 fact-checks under the Government Press Information Bureau. The Minister of State Dr Murugan further declared that Information and Broadcasting Ministry had instructed to block URLs on digital media during the ‘Operation Sindoor’ mission. In a written answer to another question, the minister has informed that in the last five years, actions have been taken against private satellite channels for violating the ‘Karyakram Sanhita (Programme Code)’ and ‘Vigyapan Sanhita (Advertisement Code)’. Action was taken in 144 cases against the channels by withdrawing permissions and asking them to stop airing certain programmes.
