Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) – A video showing a group of youths hosting an alcohol party on a boat in the Ganga River has gone viral on social media. The police have initiated an investigation and are working to identify those involved, based on the video evidence.
1. The administration has prohibited playing DJs and organizing any kind of party on boats in the Ganga River. Despite this ban, the video clearly depicts the youths drinking alcohol and celebrating with loud music.
2. According to residents and boatmen, the boat and theindividuals seen in the video are believed to be linked to the Assi Ghat area. It is also reported that the group was enroute to the Badi Sheetla Mata Temple when the party took place.
Strong resentment among boatmen
The incident has triggered sharp resentment among local boatmen. They emphasise that the Ganga River holds deep religious significance for them and is also a vital source of livelihood. Such actions, they say, hurt religious sentiments and malign the dignity of Kashi. They have urged the administration and police to take strict action against those responsible.
